Bisnis.com, BONTANG – PT Pupuk Kaltim (PKT) in the first quarter of 2022 posted a net profit of Rp 3.19 trillion, almost four times higher than the same period last year.PKT's profit in the first three months of this year is equivalent to half of last year's achievement of IDR 6.12 trillion."During April alone, Pupuk Kaltim's profit has reached around Rp. 2 trillion.This is due to the windfall profit of rising world commodity prices," said PKT President Director Rahmad Pribadi on the sidelines of a visit to the PKT factory in Bontang, Tuesday (7/6/2022).Rahmad explained, the increase in world commodity prices made derivative products from fertilizer raw materials also increase.He gave an example, ammonia had touched the level of US $ 1,000 per tonne, whereas previously it was at the level of US $ 400-US $ 500 per ton.Likewise, Potassium as a raw material for NPK touched the level of US$1,100 per tonne from the previous US$530 per tonne.With this price increase, he continued, the CCP benefited because management had cultivated raw materials before the Russo-Ukrainian war.According to him, this year, imported fertilizer raw materials are still safe.As is known, PKT in 2021 will be able to produce 3.43 million tons of urea per year, 2.74 million tons of ammonia per year, and 300,000 tons of NPK per year.Of this amount, the majority are sold to the export market.In 2020 alone, PKT's urea export market share reached 69 percent of the total 2.23 million tons of national urea products sold abroad.Meanwhile, PKT's domestic market reached 41 percent with a total consumption of 5.22 million tons.For ammonia, BKT controls 29 percent of the export share of the total 1.65 million tons.Meanwhile, the domestic market share reached 83 percent of the total demand of 460,000 tons.Until the first quarter of 2022, PKT fertilizer production reached 1.6 million tons or 99.58 percent.In detail, ammonia is 763,000 tons, urea is 768,000 tons, and NPK is around 68,000 tons.Of that production, as much as 892,000 tons have been released to local and overseas markets.As is known, PKT has 13 factories with a composition of five ammonia factories, five urea plants, one NPK fused granulation plant, one NPK blending plant, and one coal boiler factory, in an area of ​​443 hectares in Bontang, East Kalimantan.With a production capacity of 3.43 million tons of urea and 2.74 million tons of ammonia annually, PKT is the largest urea producer in Indonesia and Southeast Asia.For NPK itself, PKT has a capacity of 300,000 tons per year.PKT Director of Operations and Production, Hanggara Patrianta, added that to maintain a consistent positive performance the company will spur innovation, such as research and implementation of various cutting-edge technologies for energy efficiency and raw materials."With the revitalization process for the Factory-2 ammonia unit, which will reduce the use of natural gas by up to 4 mmbtu/ton," he said.In addition, the company is carrying out a digital transformation, starting from production, distribution to fertilization technology."During the pandemic, the CCP has created 16 applications and managed to increase productivity by 141 percent."Check out other news about the topic of this article, here:Join and get analysis of economic and business information via your email.
