Fire at Rupganj Rice Mill: Two injured workers died

On Saturday, two workers suffered burns and died in a fire at City Auto Rice and Dal Mill in Rupganj upazila, Narayanganj. 

The dead were identified as 25-year-old Hazrat Ali and 59-year-old Belayet Hussein.

The hospital resident surgeon SM Ayub Hossain said that they are being treated at the Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burns and Plastic Surgery in Dhaka Medical College and the hospital. 

He said that Hazrat Ali had a burn rate of 99%. He took his last breath at 9:30 on Saturday night, while Belayet Hossain died at around 9:00 on Sunday. The burn rate was 95%.

Meanwhile, 60-year-old Md Sirajul Islam, another worker with a burn rate of 65%, is receiving treatment in the hospital in a critical condition, the inpatient surgeon said. 

At around 2:30 pm on Saturday afternoon, a fire broke out in City Auto Rice & Dal Mill in Rupganj upazila Rupshi district of Narayanganj. Four workers were burned.

Tanharul Islam, deputy director of the Narayanganj Fire Department and Civil Defense Department, said that around 5:30 pm, five firefighters managed to control it.

He said that three of the workers with severe burns were taken to Dhaka Medical College and hospital, while 30-year-old Rana was taken to the local hospital.

Fire department officials said the flames started from a wheat bag next to the mill boiler.
